Patient Transport Service vehiclePatient Transport Vehicles

Patient transport vehicles are non-emergency vehicles used for the transportation of patients with mobility difficulties to day centres, wards, clinics and other hospital departments.

Urgent Transfer Vehicles (UTVs)

UTVs generally undertake the transportation of patients who have limited diagnostic or monitoring requirements. Staffed by a Technician and an Ambulance Care Assistant the crew skill mix is pitched at a level between that of a patient transport and emergency ambulance. UTVs have an enhanced level of equipment over and above that of a normal non-emergency patient transport vehicle and has the capacity to carry a minimum of one stretcher case.

UTVs are able to transport the following types of patients;

  • Urgent patients categorised as low risk by other health professionals
  • Other non-emergency work
  • Normal planned patient transport work
