End of Course Presentation & Course Closure, learners will be able to:

1. Explain process of honest self-assessment it’s importance and the qualities of a good driver.

2. State how an incident or road traffic collision may be investigated.

3. Explain how to use AdBlue.

4. Outline how to deal with oil spills.

5. Outline how to use certain vehicle features such as the emergency parallel button, tail-lift manual operation and state the importance of keeping up to date.

6. Outline how to respond to different categories of ambulance calls.

7. Explain how the driving Faculty can provide support.

FutureQuals CERAD (Pathway 1 – Class 3 DCA) Driving Course Notes

The Weekly Guide is intended as only a guide to the Emergency Response Driving Course – It is not fixed and is subject to change depending upon vehicle availability and mechanical problems, or the availability of training sites provided by third parties such as the reversing and manoeuvring areas.

There are Two Rules the Education Lead is expected to follow, these are: comply with the qualification’s requirements and deliver an exceptional experience to your learners. 

Brief course outline:

Week One (Regional Centre – Thornbury / St. Leonards / Derriford / Bridgwater)   

Conference style - Day 1 – Welcome / Introduction, licence checks, eyesight, exam prep, driving law, managing situations and human factors, system of car control, VDI / pre-drive check, vehicle stability, exemptions.

Practical – Day 2 – ITN Drive / Manoeuvring theory / Practical – external site booked. 

Conference style - Day 3 – Use of vehicle controls, cornering, overtaking, multi-lane, demo drives. 

Practical – Day 4 – System / Multi- Lane driving.

Classroom – Day 5 – Theory assessments 1, 08:45 – 11:30. Assessment results 11:30 – 12:30 (includes - support plans / individual needs / close).  

Learner hours – Monday= 08:30 - 16:45, Tuesday - Thursday = 08:00 / 16:00 (7.5 hours days, (Monday 7.75 hours)) Friday 08:00 – 12:30 (4.5 hours) 34.75 total delivery + 2.75 hours of evening / self-directed paid study time. 

Suggested Delivery Tutor hours – Monday to Wednesday = 07:00 / 17:00 (9:50 hours) Thursday 07:00 / 16:30 (9 hours) total 37.5 hours. 

Suggested Exam Tutor Hours – Monday 08:00 / 17:00 (8.5 hours) Tuesday to Thursday 07:30 / 16:00 (8 - hour days) Friday 07:30 / 12:30 (5 hours) total 37.5 hours. 

 

Week two:

Guided programme – but deviate to suit your learners. 

Monday – resits as required – to be arranged with Team Leaders by local tutor and invigilated on MS Teams. 

Prior to high speed – learner must complete pre-emergency response practical assessment. 

Prior to Emergency Response Driving Starting learner must have had the theory input.

Week Three:

Monday – Satellite Centre - Legislation Assessment 

Thursday – Resits of Legislation as required

Pre-Sim Crew Response Assessment Prior to Simulated crew response. 

Week Four:

Monday – Legislation resit as required. 

Simulated Crew Response to suit learners needs. 

Tuesday – to Satellite Assessment Centre for 10:00. 

Hours Rule set:

Max day = 10.5 (inc. 30 mins M/B) 

Min hours per week = 30

Max hours per week = 45 

Delivery from Local ambulance stations to suit the learner and tutor. 

No vehicles to be taken home (without agreement with DCO). 

Where possible tutors to always have two learners in a vehicle.
