Seven-year-old Ewan from Salisbury names South Western Ambulance Service’s new mascot

Seven-year-old Ewan McNeil from Salisbury, won a competition to name the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust’s new bear mascot.

Ewan, who attends Bemerton St John Church of England Primary School, suggested the name Roly Bear, after his Grandad paramedic, Roland Revell.

Roland, known as Roly, has worked as a paramedic in Wiltshire for the past 48 years.

Ewan recently attended Salisbury Ambulance Station to meet Roly Bear and to receive his prize, a mini crocheted version of the mascot, a certificate and some stickers. Joining Ewan at the station was his Grandad, who said: “I have finally found fame!”

Ewan said: “We’re so proud of Grandad and that’s why we wanted to name the new mascot after him. He’s spent so long caring for others, that he deserves to have the new mascot named after him.”

The crocheted bear was kindly donated by Chonkies Crochet.
