Information - Transfer of private ambulance provider (role 1) staff
As you will be aware, it has been confirmed that Role 1 Medical will undergo a service transfer provision change under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) 2006 (TUPE) to South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust on 14 July and 28 July 2025 (phased by geography). You are therefore receiving this letter, because you have been identified as assignable under the TUPE legislation, and we very much look forward to welcoming you to our Trust on 14 July 2025 (Redruth and Corporate Services) and 28 July 2025 (Plymouth).
We fully understand and appreciate that this period of change may bring feelings of concern or anxiety. First and foremost, I want to reaffirm our Trust's commitment to supporting you throughout the transition. Over the coming weeks and months, we will ensure you receive the necessary support for a smooth integration as we become your new employer. You and your colleagues will be equally valued and appreciated alongside our existing employees, as we work together to deliver the highest quality patient care across the South West.

What happens next?
As part of this process, it is necessary to formally consult with all affected employees. This letter and accompanying consultation document mark the beginning of that process in relation to TUPE. The Trust has been working closely with Role 1 Medical, and we have scheduled the following virtual meetings. These sessions will provide an opportunity for members of our Trust's People, Operational, and UNISON teams to share important information with you in the lead-up to 14 July 2025 (Redruth and Corporate Services) and 28 July 2025 (Plymouth). In addition to the virtual briefings, you will also be invited to a one-to-one (121) meeting as part of the TUPE transfer. To schedule your meeting, please email R1TUPEQueries@swast.nhs.uk, who works in the People Partner Team, with your availability. These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss specific details such as rotas and address any questions you may have. This meeting will also help the Trust better understand your personal circumstances, including any requests for additional supportive measures or reasonable adjustments.
