Gloucestershire ambulance runner doubles London Marathon fundraising target

George Medcalf, an Emergency Care Assistant with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), has raised more than double his fundraising target in his first London Marathon - all in support of the South Western Ambulance Charity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary year.
Setting an initial target of £2,000, George from Gloucestershire was overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family, and supporters, ultimately raising an incredible £4,020. He completed the world-famous marathon in bright sunshine and warm conditions, achieving an impressive finishing time of three hours and 17 minutes and was welcomed across the finish line by proud friends and family.
Reflecting on the experience, George said: What an amazing experience! The crowd support was incredible throughout, and at times quite overwhelming. I'm thrilled to have completed my very first marathon - even if the final 5k was a real challenge! This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I'm beyond words. The support from everyone who donated, helping me more than double my original target, has been just amazing."
"I know how much of a difference this money will make to the South Western Ambulance Charity and the hard work they do. Thank you so much to everyone who supported me and the charity."
Louise Walsh, Charity Fundraising Manager at South Western Ambulance Charity said: We are so incredibly proud of George, we know how much of his time he has dedicated to this and for him to reach race day and finish is amazing. The phenomenal support shown for George and the charity has been brilliant, especially in our charity's 30th anniversary year. The money raised will really make a difference to the staff, volunteers and communities we support."
